Johns Hopkins Takes Down Ninth-Ranked Babson, 4-3

HILTON HEAD, SC – A little over six weeks after dropping a heartbreaker at Babson, Johns Hopkins returned the favor with a 4-3 win over the ninth-ranked Beavers. The Blue Jays improve to 2-3 on the season while the Beavers fall to 4-3.
 
The Blue Jays grabbed the doubles' point with wins at two and three to take the early lead in the match. Sahana Madala and Claire Loftus needed just six games to beat Mia Sorrentino and Sarai Dorismond at three. Ava Li and Kamila Wong nearly turned the same trick in their 6-1 win over Ale Cristiani and Dana Kamal at two. Cristiani Matia and Sandra Sikharulidze prevented the sweep with a 6-3 win over Sophia Kim and Lia Melvin at one.
 
The teams then split the singles' matches and thanks to the doubles' point, Hopkins took the win. Matia Cristiani won for the Beavers at one singles over Kim 6-2, 6-1. Wong beat Dorismond 6-2, 6-4 at three and Li beat Tina Liu 6-1, 6-3 at four. Sydney Langer then secured the win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ale Cristiani at five. The Beavers then closed out the match with a pair of three-set wins at two and six. Sikharulidze came from behind to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Melvin at two. Jolie Wong then won 2-6, 604, 1-0 (14) at six over Isabel He.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 20 versus 15th-ranked Tufts at the Natalie Pitts Memorial Invitational in Newport News, VA. The match is scheduled for an 10:00 am start.
 
Notes: Wong is now tied for 10th in Johns Hopkins history with 47 career singles wins • Wong also needs one win to move into a tie for second in program history in career doubles wins.
