HAVERFORD, PA - The No. 18 Johns Hopkins baseball team turned a two-run game into a rout Saturday afternoon as it exploded for nine runs in the eighth inning to defeat No. 13 Haverford, 12-1. The Blue Jays swept the defending conference champions by a cumulative score of 20-1 on the day, holding the Fords to just six hits in 18 innings of play. Click here to read the game one recap.

Hopkins (16-2, 2-0 CC) picked up where it left off in game one after Adam Weiner and Colin McCarthy drew a pair of walks in the third inning. The clean-up hitter Jeff Lynch then launched his first home run of the season to give the Jays an early 3-0 lead.

Enterlin cruised through the Haverford (14-2, 0-2 CC) lineup during the middle of the game, earning four consecutive strikeouts and retiring eight straight batters at one point. Enterlin went seven total innings in the game, striking out nine batters and allowing no earned runs.

The Fords threatened to close the deficit in the sixth when Luke Frankiw was hit by Enterlin. Frankiw advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt and then a single by teammate Nick Miranda. The Jays managed to hold Haverford at bay, however, as Miranda was picked off at first to end the inning.

Haverford finally scored its first run in 15 innings as Casey Fox got things going with a single to right field. Fox advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then raced to third after a throwing error by Hopkins catcher Ryan Zakszeski. Alex Hudak chopped an RBI groundout to second base to score Fox and cut the Fords' deficit to two, 3-1.

Hopkins squashed any momentum Haverford built in the previous innings, however, as it scored nine runs in the eighth inning. Mike Kanen opened the frame with a walk and Chris Wilhelm followed with an RBI single down the left field line. The Jays scored again as Wilhelm advanced to third on a Mike Denlinger single, and Zakszeski followed with an RBI single.

The inning continued with the bases full as an errant throw by the second baseman on a Weiner chopper allowed all runners to be safe. After a few more runs were manufactured, Lynch and Wilhelm finished the inning with a pair of two-RBI hits to take a commanding 12-1 lead.

Hopkins returns to action Monday on the JHU Baseball Diamond as it hosts Alvernia for a 3:30 game.
