LANCASTER, PA - Seven-time champion Johns Hopkins placed five players on the 2013 All-Centennial Conference Teams as announced by the conference office this morning. In addition, Dave Woodring was named the 2013 Centennial Conference Coach of the Year. Five players earned All-CC Singles honors and four grabbed doubles honors.
In his third season as head coach of the Blue Jays, Woodring earns his first Centennial Conference Coach of the Year honor. He has guided Hopkins to a 53-11 overall record and a 30-0 mark in the conference during his tenure as head coach. He led Hopkins to the 2013 ITA National Team Indoor Championship in March and the number one ranking in the ITA poll. Woodring also spent six seasons as an assistant under now Director of Tennis Operations Chuck Willenborg. Since he joined the staff in 2005, Hopkins has gone 144-40 (.783) overall and 75-5 (.937) in the conference, including the Jays' current 70-match conference win streak.
Junior Hailey Hogan and sophomores Elaine Baik and Shannon Herndon grabbed First Team All-CC honors for singles, while Hogan and Baik also grabbed first team doubles accolades. Herndon and freshman Sydney Lehman earned second team honors for doubles. And Lehman and sophomore Stephanie Rettig were named honorable mention for singles. Hopkins has now produced 34 All-CC Singles honorees and 26 All-CC Doubles selections since the conference inception in 1994.
Hogan earns First Team All-CC honors in singles and doubles for the third straight season. She is the fifth player in program history to earn first team honors in singles three times and the fourth to do so in doubles. Ranked 13th in the region in singles and 10th in doubles, Hogan is 5-6 in singles and 7-6 in doubles in 2013. She ranks 10th in school history in career singles wins (37), eighth in doubles wins (44) and total wins (81). For her career, Hogan is 22-0 in regular season conference matches and 31-0 in all conference matches (regular season and tournament).
Baik is a First Team All-CC selection in singles for the second straight season. She earns first team honors for doubles after being named to honorable mention squad a year ago. She is 8-4 in singles and 8-9 in doubles this season and is ranked 12th in the Atlantic South in singles. Herndon is 9-5 in singles and 8-7 in doubles this season. For her career, she is 24-9 in singles and 26-13. As a freshman, she grabbed Second Team All-CC honors in singles and first team honors in doubles. This fall she became the first unseeded player in JHU history to advance to the semifinals at the ITA Southeast Regional.
Lehman is the 13th freshman in JHU history to earn All-CC honors and just the sixth to do so in both singles and doubles. She is 13-1 in singles and 12-4 in doubles and has won 11 straight singles matches. Her 13 wins in singles are tied for the team lead with Rettig, who also boasts a 13-1 singles record and 11-match win streak. Rettig earns all-conference singles honors for the first time in her career after earning honorable mention accolades for doubles last season. She has a team-best 16 doubles wins, going 16-2 so far this season and is 29-3 in her career.
