• Junior Nico Ivanov put the Blue Jays on the board first, scoring at the 4:50-mark of the first quarter. The Cardinal answered just 17 seconds later to knot the score at one. Goals from junior John Murphy and Banks pulled the Blue Jays within one with 2:37 to go in the quarter. Iona answered just 15 seconds later to push the lead back to two, but a strike from sophomore Jake Pearson made it a 4-3 game at the break.
• Iona took control in the second quarter, outscoring Hopkins, 9-1, in the period to take a 13-4 lead at the half.
• The Gaels pushed their lead to 10 as the sandwiched a pair of goals around one from Pearson, and it was a 15-5 game with 6:44 to play. Hopkins responded with goals from Ivanov and Murphy to cut the deficit to single digits. The teams traded goals in the final four and a half minutes as Iona took a 16-8 lead into the fourth.
• The Blue Jays' put together an impressive quarter, outscoring the Gaels, 6-2, but could not complete the comeback.
