Final Stats

MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Senior Mike Spiciarich and junior Corey Gleason both collected three hits and the 21st-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team scoreed early and often as the Blue Jays rolled past Montclair State, 20-8 at Yogi Bera Stadium Tuesday night. The win is the fifth straight and 11th in the last 12 games for the Blue Jays, who picked up their largest margin of victory in the 16-game series with Montclair.

The Blue Jays took control of the game with a six-run second inning and eventually built the lead to 20-3 before Montclair scored five runs in the ninth inning.

Dave Montegari and Ian Christie both had RBI singles, Paul Long added an RBI-double and Gary Rosenberg's two-run home run capped the six-run second inning for the Blue Jays.

After Mike Durgala scored on a wild pitch in the third to push the lead to 7-0 the Blue Jays tacked on four more runs in the fourth to push the lead to 11-0. Senior Paul Winterling's two-run home run highlighted the four-run fourth and Durgala added a sacrifice fly in the inning as well.

Monclair scored a run in the fourth on an RBI-single by Tommy Warth, but after a scoreless fifth inning for both teams the Blue Jays got two runs back in the top of the sixth, including one on an RBI-double by Gleason.

John Jediny tripled home Rob Bowness and Greg D'Alessandro singled home Dan Ramirez to account for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth for Montclair to trim the deficit to 13-3, but the Blue Jays added single runs in the seventh and ninth and five in the eighth to build the lead to 20-3. Tim Slikers's three-run double was the big hit in the eighth for the Blue Jays, who also got RBI-singles from Rob Pietroforte and Todd Emr in the five-run outburst. Montclair's five-run rally in the ninth included four hits and one Blue Jay error.

Ryan McConnell (2-1) pitched two innings and allowed two hits and one run to pick up the win for the Blue Jays (24-6). Gleason, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth, was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Spiciarish was 3-for-4 with two runs sored. Rosenberg was the only other Blue Jay to collect two hits as he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. In all, 12 different players had at least one hit and 13 different players scored at least one run for the Blue Jays.

D'Alessandro, Jediny and Matt Benedetti all had a pair of hits for the Red Hawks (11-19).
