One of the all-time great defensemen in Johns Hopkins lacrosse history, Hank Kaestner enjoyed a standout career for the Blue Jays from 1965-67. During his career he led Hopkins to a 25-9 record and the 1967 USILA National Championship. The Blue Jays posted an 11-1 mark during his senior year.

Kaestner earned First Team All-America honors as a junior (1966) and senior (1967) after garnering Second Team All-America status as a sophomore. He earned the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation's top defenseman as a junior and senior and remains one of just three Johns Hopkins players who have earned this prestigious award twice. He was named to the All-Time Johns Hopkins team and was the recipient of the Sidney C. Erlanger Award as the top senior on the 1967 Blue Jay lacrosse team.

Kaestner was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1986.
