In the storied history of the Johns Hopkins baseball program, few have accomplished more than Joe Kail. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 1994 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, Kail was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Blue Jays during one of the most successful four-year periods in school history.
Kail earned Third Team All-America honors as a senior, when he also earned First Team All-Region, First Team All-Centennial, First Team ECAC South and First Team All-UAA honors. He was also named the Centennial Conference and ECAC South Player of the Year at the end of that season.
Kail finished his career ranked first in school history in doubles (39) and walks (90) an third in hits (157), runs scored (134) and at bats (438). He also ranked among JHU's single-season leaders in batting average (.454), runs scored (47), hits (59) and walks (34) as each of those totals/averages were among the top five in school history at the time he graduated.
Kail's individual success translated directly to team success as JHU won four UAA titles, three MAC Southeast Championships, two MAC South crowns, one overall MAC title and the inaugural Centennial Conference Championship during his career. He also led the Blue Jays to three trips to the NCAA Tournament during his career.
